One Year Ago Today...

One year ago today, my Grandmother left this world and began her eternity in Heaven with her Lord & Savior Jesus Christ. It's hard to believe it's been a year (if you want to read about how/why she died, you can click here). In some respects it feels like it's only been a few days. I still miss her more than I have ever missed anyone in my life. Not a day goes by, when I don't think of her, and some days I miss her so much that I just have to cry.

When both of my Parents worked, I spent a lot of my Summers with her. She was the coolest Grandmother anyone could ever ask for. She wore high heels and blue jeans no matter where she went, her make up was perfect, she wore the most expensive jewelry, and I never saw a hair on her head out of place. My Nanny Bridges was my best friend in a lot of ways. I could always pick up the phone, call her, and talk to her about anything and everything. On my birthdays, she would take me shopping, and every year before school started...she would give me money to buy new school outfits.

When the Backstreet Boys came to my hometown, she bought me tickets that my Parent's couldn't really afford, and when everyone at school was wearing Birkenstocks, she bought me some too. When I was in the 7th grade, she bought me a black leather jacket. I was so excited to wear it, that I wore it to school one day. Never mind the fact that it was 80 degrees outside! I had a brand new, black leather jacket and I was gonna show it off! I still have that jacket, and I still wear it in the Winter. I smile every time I slide my arms into it.

I was blessed to have known and to have been close with both sets of my Grandparents growing up, and I love(d) all of them with all of my heart...but my Nanny Bridges was a very special lady. She was feisty, and funny. She didn't let anyone take advantage of her, and she loved so much that it ultimately killed her. Sometimes, while I sleep, she comes to visit me in my dreams; I live for those nights. My Nanny Bridges was an amazing woman; a person you could never forget. I will never forget.

A great post, Samantha.
I too, was blessed that my grandparents lived long enough that I remember them well. It is great to have those good memories.

It's so sad when we lose someone so close to us. My grandmother (I lived with her off and on my whole life and spoke to her at least 2 or 3 times a week) passed away 6 years ago. I still tear up about it sometimes.
