Had a Glimpse of Baby Fever...& Then Watched It Pass On By...

This morning I had the pleasure of attending my first cousin's (Jessica of The Richey's Three) baby shower. My Aunt Deborah (Jessica's Mom) had asked me to take pictures for the event, and of course I said yes! I love taking pictures, and I love nothing more than to take them for my family. I took pictures of family, and friends, but when it came time for her to open all of the gifts...I got kind of sentimental. I remember when I was Jessica. Sitting there, opening all of my gifts, trying to picture what my baby was going to look like in all of the new clothes and playing with the new toys. For a second, and I mean a second, I thought about how exciting it would be to have another baby.

It didn't take long for my brain to talk some sense into me.

I can't picture myself with more than one child, and I can't help but think how hard of a time I had delivering Bree. After two hours of pushing, the epidural not working (natural birth would be a piece of cake if the baby comes out when they're supposed to), my doc decided that I needed to have an emergency c-section. The problem was that Bree's head couldn't get pass my tailbone. There were two reasons for this issue. Number one, she was face up instead of face down. Number two, I had a really bad car accident four years ago, where I was rear ended by a Ford F150 going 55 miles per hour when he hit me. The doctors said they couldn't blame my tailbone being pushed forward on the car accident, but I know (judging from the constant pain I have in my lower back), that Eugene (the driver of the Ford F150) was the cause of my emergency c-section. Nevertheless, my Mom has assured me that the next time I have a baby (Ha!), a c-section will be scheduled, and I will be a-ok. Well, then, here is my other problem...when they gave me the spinal block, as routine when having a c-section, it moved up instead of down. Err go, the spinal block paralyzed me and my lungs, and I found out what true suffocation felt like. I don't care to experience that ever again. They had to knock me out, and I woke up four hours later. Everyone and their mother had already seen Bree, and me...I can't even remember the first time I held her.

I know that the chances of any of that happening again are slim, but it's still scary to think about.

I think Bree is doing pretty well being an only child. She isn't too spoiled, and definitely does not get her way. I'm pretty firm with her. Besides, I kind of want to prove a point. An only child doesn't ALWAYS have to be spoiled. I am told that the chances of me proving that point are very slim, but we'll see.

Anyway, here are some pictures of my beautiful cousin Jessica at her beautiful baby shower:

First of all, you did great on those pictures. Your cousin is glowing, and is one of those beautiful pregnant woman you see. ( I never was...ugh!) She is simple gorgeous and I can see why it would kindof give you babyitis. She is deceptive:)

2nd...HOLY COW! What a way to have a baby, Sam! That hands down goes in the books for a GREAT reason to have an only child. I am pro many children, and I am with you on this one. The whole lung/suffocating thing did me in. You poor poor thing. Thank the good Lord you and Bree are here safe and sound:)

She was glowing & beautiful...I was never a pretty pregnant woman either. I was all swollen and puffy because we had record breaking temperatures the entire Summer that I was pregnant. I'm talking, 105+ degrees! Bree was born in September, so I went ALLLLL the way through the Summer. No fun!

& yes, it was a rather traumatic event in my life, and I'm not signing up to do it again...any time soon. It's by God's grace that we are both healthy and alive. I remember trying to get the nurses attention when I couldn't breath. My arms were paralyzed and I couldn't speak, because literally EVERYTHING in my body that controlled voice, breathing and movement was paralyzed. I was laying there wondering if the nurse would ever look down and notice that I was mouthing the words, "I can't breathe" to her. Fortunately she did. I never want to experience that again.

Such great photos. I get baby fever all the time but I can't financially afford another baby.

Oh wow, the birth sounds like it was completely traumatizing...I cannot even imagine how scared you must have felt when the spinal was moving up instead of down. I can fully understand why you're not in any hurry to experience that again.

I had my tubes tied with my last c-section so if I ever had any fleeting feelings of baby fever, I knew there was nothing I could do about it. We weren't expecting our 2nd set of twins so I wasn't about to risk a 3rd set of twins...could you imagine??

Your cousin looks radiant in those pictures!!!!

I'm not sure if you looked back at all, but I commented back to everyone on my blog about having babies. Your labor sounds like it was awful. I was able to deliver vaginally but mine was also sunny side up and I delivered with my epideral not working for some reason and had to push her out with my doctor's hand in there helping turn her. Did not feel very good, so I can't imagine having to do that and then a c-section and the whole trauma you went through with the spinal going up. Scary! But, you look really young. You can always have more kids later on if you decide to. For now you can enjoy Bree and give her all the attention that kids with siblings don't always get!

Baby Fever... ohhhhh gotta love it. Yes it comes and goes, thank goodness I can't have more, so we don't take action to cure the baby fever... I have an only child. SPOILED BRAT is what she is... even at the age of 14 - but I love her!

I thought my cousin was beautiful too! I wish I had been a beautiful prego :) Thank you all for the compliments on the pictures! I had so much fun doing them.

Rayli, I'm supposed to get an email every time someone replies to a comment I left, but you know how the internet never works when you need it too :) The doc tried to turn Bree face down, but she wouldn't move and he was scared that she would have permanent damage to her head if he kept trying. She was born with a bit of a cone head, but I hear most babies are. She was still beautiful :)
