No Sir, Not Me...

Not much going on in our little world so far this week. I finally got around to scheduling Bree's 2 year old check up appointment for tomorrow. I had been so hesitant at taking her to the doctor's office, because everyone was getting so sick (or so the media would have us to believe). I'm not sure if she is supposed to get any vaccinations tomorrow, but I'm sure the doc will try and push the Flu & H1N1 vaccinations on me. Let me make this clear...she WILL NOT be getting the Flu shot or H1N1 shot. Last year she got HALF of a Flu shot, and got so sick...that I didn't take her back a month later to get the other half. She was sick for nearly 2 weeks after that stupid shot, and I swore she'd never get another one. I don't know why they are pushing this stuff on us so much. I have NEVER had a Flu shot, and I have NEVER had the flu. Coincidence? I think not, because the Hubs is the same way. Neither of us have ever had the Flu shot, and neither of us have ever had the Flu. I won't be submitting Bree to these ridiculous vaccinations.

Don't get me wrong, I am all for vaccinations. Had my brother had the Bacterial Meningitis vaccine, he wouldn't have nearly died from the disease a few years back. I am a firm believer in getting those types of vaccinations, but I just don't completely agree with the concept of the Flu/H1N1 vaccination. Bree has never gotten sick from any of the other vaccinations. She may have gotten cranky, or a little irritable...but never sick like she did after the Flu shot last December.

Okay, I'm through venting. I promise.

I'll let you know how the doc's office goes tomorrow. I plan on asking for some advice about her potty training back tracking, amongst a few other questions I have.

I think I have had the flu shot 2 or 3 times and got very sick from it. I DO NOT get them anymore and I have been fine.

That would be so hard to have to take your baby in for their check up during sick season! Yuck. i am avoiding the dr's office like the plaque just cause I don't want to catch anything.

We'll stay home!

No flu vaccine's here either!!

Becky, I'm crossing my fingers hoping she doesn't catch anything while in the doc's office. I think I'm going to load her up on some vitamin C and keep the hand sanitizer with me in my pocket book. Pray for us!

I took the flu shots a few times and got sick each time. I have been lucky and only gotten the actual flu one time. Not that bad... a weeks vacation in bed is all...

I am so glad my daughter was born in May! I always avoid the doctor's office as much as possible during the cold/flu season. If we do have to go, I try to bribe her to get her to sit on my lap and not touch anything. I'll usually take her to buy something at the Target dollar spot for being good.

Luckily, she's 5 and understands how being sick is no fun, so she's gotten better about not wanting to run in and play with all of the toys and touch all of the chairs.

Good luck!

I don't blame you...my doctor won't even offer my kids the H1N1 vaccine!

I really didn't want to make this appointment, but then I know she needs to have that 2 year old check up and I know the longer I wait, the more the nurses and doc are going to look at me like I'm a bad mommy. I'll definitely keep her hands clean, and just pray that she won't catch anything. And I'll bring her own toys, and maybe a snack or something to keep her from running around.

The have a "well" sitting area and "sick" sitting area, but they aren't divided or anything...who do they think they're kidding?

I get the flu shot and nothing. My husband gets it and has body aches for two days. Go figure. You gotta do what your mommy gut tells you to. Hope the doc. went well.

I don't do the flu shot either. And I am definitely not doing the H1N1 that they are giving at my kids' school. I am anti those optional vaccinations because you never know what's gonna happen when you get them. I started being cautious of vaccines when my 5 year old was 1 and he got chicken pox from the vaccine. Obviously, I do vaccinate my kids, but these flu ones are too risky to do in my opinion. Also, my mother in law is a principal and 2 years ago she and most of her staff took the flu vaccine, and within a week they all had the flu.... a principal and 10 teachers were out for 2 weeks!

I'm glad I'm not the only one refusing the flu/H1N1 vaccines. Evidently my doctor wasn't too concerned with endorsing it either. He kind of mumbled the "...unless you want the flu shot." To which I said no...and that was that :)

We don't vaccinate for anything except Meningitis (because the symptoms progress so rapidly with little to no notice and can be fatal).

The reason that so many people get sick from the flu shot is because it is an attenuated or "live" vaccine, meaning that it contains live micro-organisms purposefully introduced into your body in the hopes that it will provoke an immune response...and sometimes that immune response is to make you sick. Other "live" vaccines include the MMR shot and the chicken pox vaccination.
