Top 3 Thursday - Hoarding

It's time for Top 3 Thursday, a new(er) blog carnival started up by Confessions of a Working Mom and The (Un)Experienced Mom. Each week, they pick a category for you to share your Top 3 thoughts on. It's lots of fun, so I hope you'll join in!

What Top 3 things should you have thrown away ages ago, but haven't?
hoard |hôrd| noun: a stock of valued objects

By looking at my house you wouldn't think that I was a hoarder, or that I had certain things in my house that I really don't need & should just get rid of. However, I have a confession to make...I am a closet hoarder....literally.

Let's take a look into B's closet...

3. I have more gift bags than I will ever use. There is no way that I could possibly buy that many birthday/baby shower/wedding gifts for any of the people I know, but I can never get rid of them! What happens if I need one? The way my luck seems to go, as soon as I threw them all away, I would get invited to 15 wedding showers, 10 baby showers, and a bunch of little kid birthday parties. I just can't take that chance! At least I do have them organized. Atop B's shelf in her closet, sits 3 large gift bags, all of them stuffed with neatly folded gift bags.

2. Stacked beside those three gift bags in B's closet, are about 15 baby wipe containers that I have been unable to trash. I don't know what I'll do with all of them, but I just can't bring myself to throwing them out. What if I need to store something in them? Maybe crayons, or those annoying little kids meal toys that B seems to accumulate. Although I already have crayons & annoying kids meal toys stored in a couple...I may need more! I laugh, because last weekend my MIL kept B, and she couldn't find any baby wipes. She went through every one of those containers trying to find just one wipe. *Mwahahahaha...*

1. Also in B's closet, I have stored countless numbers of B's newborn outfits that I just couldn't bring myself to throw away. I have her first pair of blue jeans, and they are absolutely the cutest things you have ever seen! I could never see myself carting them off to Goodwill! They should be framed or something! Then there's this little orange Gap hoodie that she never got to wear, because it was too big...but still too cute to get rid of! I just can't bring myself to throwing these things out. In fact, for every season of her life, I have pulled at least 3 of my favorite outfits from her clothes and stored them with the other clothes I have saved. I have a large box, filled with dozens of outfits, including every Thanksgiving & Christmas outfit that I have bought her.

I guess I am a hoarder, but a closet hoarder. I probably could do without the baby wipe containers, and gift bags...and probably even some of the outfits of B's that I have saved...but I just can't seem to bring myself up to throwing them out. The moment my closet hoarding moves out of the closet, I swear, I'll get rid of something. Until then, I will continue to neatly organize all of my hoarding in B's closet...until she kicks my hoarding out. Then I'll have to use my closet.

What are some things that you are hoarding?

I totally get the gift bag thing. You never know when you might be invited to 15 weddings right??? I kept all my kids cute baby clothes. Now that I am DONE having kids I am going to have them made into a quilt. That way I can still have the memories and more space too.

missed ya too blog friend!

so funny. I too hoard the baby wipes containers. I mean they are perfect for ....things. We don't really hoard - we just have too much stuff.

LOL! I have tons of gift bags. Tons! And I've kept Ethan's most adorable newborn clothes. I couldn't bring myself to give them up.

But really, I'm pretty good at getting rid of stuff.

Funny you should post this question today! I just organized and tossed out a bunch of crap this morning. Mismatched socks that will never find mates, old bras/undies, too many containers and jars - my husband is obsessive about collecting them!

I hold on to gift bags too-- and here I thought I was the only one! I just keep thinking I'll need them at some point. Yeah right!

And the baby clothes? Who knows, maybe you'll have another baby girl one day who can wear them? At least, that's my justification!

We have waaaayyy to much crap laying around our house, I hate it. It is not me, but my bride and The Daughter. Old magazines, stubs from bills, little garbage toys...I wish I could toss it all.

OH my...gift bags. I have a HUGE bag full of them from my baby shower. Either I need to trash them, or my friends better start popping out kids. In my defense, I tried to get rid of them on freecycle and no one wanted them!

You know what's funny, I saved those old baby wipe containers FOREVER cause they seemed like they should be usefull for something, right? Well, I'm tellin' you to give in and recycle ;-)

That's not bad at all. I want my boys' newborn clothes made into a quilt. Of course, I can't actually quilt...

I used to hoarde many things, especially stuffed animals for some reason, before I moved across the country. Then I forced myself to clean everything out/donate everything I didn't need that could be donated. I made a lot of little kids VERY happy! :)

Now I don't really hold on to too much, but I know when I have a little it will be impossible for me to throw away such things as the cute little baby jeans!

The quilt thing is a great idea, I have heard that one before! I think that would help free up your space! But, once I free up mine and do the same I will let ya know how it works out! LOL!!!!

It seems gift bags are going to be the downfall of the modern woman. LOL Just two weeks ago I finally said enough and went and threw out ALL of my gift bags. I have had most of them for SEVEN years since my son's baby shower. I think it was a little past time to just let them go.I think the recycling man probably had a field day the next morning. =P

I hoard ribbon, and I also have an abnormally large stash of gift bags? Is this some kind of sickness we don't know the name of??? ;)

I save gift bags too. It's such a waste to toss them. They are so expensive and they don't get ruined in one gift giving/receiving. So I save them all! I have even saved the Christmas ones that I've given to my kids that have their names on them. They get the same bags year after year after year. They've never noticed. Hahaha

I also have wipe boxes laying around. They come in really handy and don't break very easily. One is holding daily meds for the boys. One is our garage sale money box, one is....

I am cracking up though that your MIL searched them all looking for a wipe. I can only imagine what she was thinking.

Don't get rid of the outfits. You may have another baby girl who can use them or a niece. I don't mind passing on my favorite outfits to family when I get to see them being worn.

You should throw away the gift bags and wipe boxes but save the outfits, they are filled with memories.

Recently my mom sold a lot of my childhood toys and stuff at a tag sale, I hated it. I wanted to keep all my old memories. I kept my original wood lincoln logs. I'm going to be a hoarder too when I'm older, I know it.

Awww...I dont hink keeping some of her clothes is hoarding. It's cute. It is a good rule though to make sure that it doesn't spill out of the closet though :)

Gift bags...oh heck yes! Forgot about those! It's ridiculous the amount you save up after having a baby or getting married, isn't it?
